Note - You do not have to download IE 5 all at once. You can disconnect at any time and run the setup program again. The setup program will pick up where it left off. This applies only when you are saving the files to your hard disk drive.

IE 5.5 is now available for download. Just download the file and then click on the file while connected to the internet and the starter program will finish the rest of the download. There are however some caveats.

Since this is a new release it is hard to download because everybody in the world is also downloading the same files and there is allot of internet congestion. To download the files quickly just follow these tips.

1. If you select the US download and congestion occurs then the program will terminate the download. I think the US download will not be any good for a couple of weeks. It is good however on the weekends at local night time in the US. This is because most people use the internet during weekdays.

2. Try to pick a site where it is night time at the site you are trying to download from. This is because night time has less users online at any one particular location.

3. I highly recommend that you download this files to your hard drive and then install the program after you have downloaded. If you install while online you are just asking for problems unless you have an ISDN connection. At this time at 56k or below you will not stay connected if install while online due to internet congestion.

4. To download to your hard drive run the install program and select the MINIMUM install and then click the ADVANCED radio button and select DOWNLOAD ONLY.

5. At present the best location to download from is the ONLINE DISTRIBUTION SITES then select a country where it is night time in that country. IF it get busy at this site then the program will connect to another site automatically. The US site DOES NOT do this. Why I don't know. Myself I downloaded the program from the UK then Germany, South America, Japan and Australia.

6. Last but not least READ the IE.TXT file before downloading. If you are running Norton Utilities you must shut down NPROTECT. This is because you may fill up the recycle bin with temp files and run out of disk space. To shut down NPROTECT press the DELETE, CONTROL and ALT buttons at the same time. Then high-lite NPROTECT and select END TASK.

    The install is pretty much a no problem install if you READ the IE.TXT file and follow the guidelines. Also make sure to run SCANDISK or Norton DISK DOCTOR before installing to check for any disk problems...... Enjoy the new browser.
